Freeze-Dried Feeding Guide

Freeze-Dried food delivers complete and balanced nutrition in its most concentrated form. It can be fed on its own as a complete and balanced meal*, or added to your dog’s existing food to boost nutrition and flavor. This guide will help you understand how much Freeze-Dried food to feed, how to serve correctly, and how to confidently transition your dog, whether fed on its own or as part of a mixed feeding approach.

K9 Natural Freeze-Dried Feasts can be served dry, or rehydrated by adding warm water.

For rehydration, we recommend mixing a ratio of 1 cup of food to ¼ cup of water. Warm water should feel comfortable when tested on the back of your hand.

Sprinkle K9 Natural Freeze-Dried over your dog’s usual meal to increase nutrient content and enhance taste.

Topping is a simple way to introduce freeze-dried nutrition to see how it works for you and your dog.

Every dog is different. Body condition, not the bowl, is the best guide for what is right for your pet. We recommend regularly monitoring your dog’s weight and condition, and adjusting feeding amounts if you notice any significant change over time.

*Large breed puppies expected to exceed 70lb+ (32kg+) as an adult should wait until fully grown before transitioning to our Freeze-Dried diets.

Transitioning to K9 Natural

We recommend following a 10 day transition plan. Start by mixing a small amount into their current food, slowly increasing the amount over 10 days until they enjoy an entire bowl of K9 Natural. Transitioning correctly over this time will give your pet (and their stomach) time to adjust to the high-meat, nutrient-dense content of our food.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because nature knows best. Dogs thrive on natural diets high in meat and rich in vitamins and minerals. Research shows that a natural, high‑meat diet supports energy, digestion, skin and coat health, and overall vitality. Our Freeze-Dried recipes use wholefood ingredients and avoid unnecessary fillers like grains, cereals, and starches; ensuring your dog gets the nutrients they need, just as nature intended.

Our Freeze-Dried feasts are complete & balanced, nutrient-dense, and as close to a raw diet as you can get. Our innovative freeze-drying process uses minimal processing to remove the water content of the original ingredients, leaving all the natural goodness of a raw, high-meat diet in a safe, convenient, and ready-to-use format. Serve on their own as a complete & balanced meal or sprinkle over your dog's existing food as a tasty, nutritious topper.

All of the wholefood ingredients used in our Freeze-Dried range are sourced sustainably from New Zealand. We have made the most of our natural resources, sourcing free-range meat from grass-fed animals, sustainably sourced seafood from our clean NZ waters, vegetables grown from fertile soil, and cage-free chicken. Every ingredient is chosen for quality, nutrition, and traceability - that’s why we are B Corp certified.

If you’re feeding our Freeze-Dried range as your dog’s complete meal, you can either feed as is or by adding approximately ¼ cup of water with every cup of food. This supports digestion and increases hydration. Always follow the feeding instructions on the back of the pack or refer to our feeding guides here.

If you’re feeding as a topper, simply sprinkle or mix into your dog’s existing food for added flavor and nutrition.

Feeding amounts vary depending on the age, breed, size, and activity level of your dog. You can find full feeding guidelines for all our formats here.

We recommend keeping an eye on your dog’s body shape and adjusting their feeding portions accordingly if you notice any significant increase or decrease from their “normal.”

Yes, our Freeze-Dried diets are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by AAFCO Dog Food Nutritional Profiles to be complete and balanced for all stages of a dog's life, with the exception of large‑breed puppies expected to exceed 70lb+ (32kg+) as an adult, who should wait until fully grown before transitioning to our Freeze-Dried diets.

Puppies generally require 2–3 times the amount an adult dog of the same weight would eat. Always follow the puppy feeding guide here.
